Books - Lucky 7's in 2014

Lucky 7's weekly challenge,  I haven't managed to take part in many of these so far but couldn't resist this one.

Mon - Today I read...

I have had this book for awhile now but not got into it, but I have really got into the documentaries that are on TV at the mo re the WW1, (loved Jeremy Packman's series) so I have pulled it out to start reading.

Tues - Fact or Fiction

I was always a fiction girl but I seem to have become more of a fact girl as I have grown older.  The fiction books I have are ones the girls have had and passed on, I may read them I may not.

Wed - Favourite read to children

A selection of our favourites, Lion King was Bernadette's all time fav, every night, she could even recite the book word for word, still can just about!!!

Thurs - Fav character - don't have one now, but as a child it was definitely 'Little Miss Pepperpot'.  LOL I have just googled her for this post and they are still going http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pepperpot-Stories-Summer-Reading-Collections/dp/0099411393/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1394356021&sr=1-1&keywords=little+miss+pepperpot

Fri - a great reference book -

Joy put me onto this book and it is wonderful.

Sat - My childhood memory...

I LOVED this book, read all the time, lol can't bare to part with it, though the cover has long gone.  I use to read it to our two as well.

Sun - my book shelves -

these are at the top of the stairs by my computer and they are home to all sorts (as you can see), scrapbook albums, photo albums, brass kettles!!! etc etc (maybe I should sort them out.....nah!)  The girls both have book shelves in their rooms as well which are filled with books.

Monthly View & Lucky Snapping

Over on Lucky Snapping 2013 this week's theme is the monthly view.  I have been doing a monthly view for a couple of years now, so thought I might as well join in and have started the kitchen window view by mistake really.  I was going to stick with my original view but have found myself taking a couple of photos from the kitchen window recently so thought - why not do this as well!!

So a month late - but who cares, here is January's view - taken on the 29th Jan, raining for a change!!

Taken this morning after the first hail storm, think that is as white as we are going to see it this year!

I haven't taken my other view yet, so will post that during the week.

Nothing to do with challenges but Nathalie did a layout of all the books she had read in 2012.  I really like the layout and the idea of it, but it made me realise that I don't read any more, I always use the excuse that if I start then the world has to stop whilst I sink deeper and deeper into the story til I get to the end then life can resume normality!!  My amazing lack of self discipline does not allow me to put the book down literally!!!  Anyway I decided that I really do need to start again having encouraged the girls to read lots and being nicknamed 'bookworm' by my brother as a teenager, and also because I actually enjoy it and miss it. So I searched through the girls books and picked this one out.  I have read a number of Sophie Kinsella's before and enjoy the lightheartedness of them.  It wasn't bad, not the best of her's I have read, times alittle boring and a very predictable ending, but a happy read.  Now to chose my next one.

Surprises

Last week I had two surprises which I thought I would share. Thurs there was a knock on my door and I found an elderly gentleman standing there saying  he had got his car stuck down the lane and needed to get home to ring his son but couldn't walk any further due to illness. So I popped him in the car and down to his home and never really thought any more of it.  When I got in from work on Saturday, I find his son had been round with this gorgeous Posy in a Jam Jar to say thank you.

I was absolutely bowled over, it is so sweet and thoughtful, (and such a simply idea - so saving jam jars now!!)

My other surprise was this wonderful book.

When I turned up at camera club last week one of the ladies said "I have a present for you" and gave me the book.  Have to be honest and say I was very confused at the time as we were on the door taking money and thought it was on loan as I couldn't understand why she would give me a present.  Well I met up with her yesterday and no it isn't on loan, she gave it to me as she knows I appreciate books like she does and I love gardens!!!  How sweet is that, I just feel totally overwhelmed and very lucky.
