Lucky 7's catch up

So far behind on these challenges and major guilt feeling about it as I have suggested the themes!!!  Would like to say I shall try harder in the future, but I can't promise anything as life is somewhat full on at the moment and blogging although on my daily to do list keeps getting missed :(
Mick even bought me an ipad to make it easier for me to do some blogging in the evening - instead I have discovered Pinterest!!!!! Fatal lol

Shoes - some of my favourite, though these will be going away now and the boots will be coming out :)

Sorry, no food shots for last week, unfortunately I tend to eat my food before I think about photographing it lol.

Signs of Autumn

Joining in with Lucky 7's in 2014 this week - signs of Autumn, decided to kill two birds with one stone and make it my daily photo for this week as well, plus a few extras lol  The garden hasn't been as colourful or as successful as I would like this year but that has given me a chance to review it and decide what to get rid of for next year and what to plant.

Tomorrow Yvonne and I are off to Exeter for a couple of days, looking forward to it, this is in place of our weekend of crafting due to my not being able to get any time off work this summer, so having to go on my rest days.

What a week

Well yet again it has been a week that has simply flown by and I think I am still reeling a bit from it all to be honest. Monday was another trip to People and Gardens for photos and I found myself yet again getting involved with fundraising ideas for them ready for a Directors meeting next week.
Tuesday I had a lovely walk with a friend and finally sorted details for a photo project we are going to work on together which you can read about here date is now set for the first shoot 30th July on the Roseland. Wednesday was the big day that B has been working towards for the last three years and what a fantastic day it turned out to be.  The gods looked after us all - that is all I can say. I will post all about it in a separate post - but the icing on the cake for the day was viewing a room in a house for Amanda to stay in whilst at her next work placement in Bristol and it is perfect, a lovely lady and her 10 yr old son.  So nice and a real weight off our shoulders.  Thursday and Friday was work and running around in the afternoon and out for a meal with friends from London who are house hunting down here for the week. A lovely evening. I was looking forward to a weekend off and pure chilling but we are now taking B back to Bristol tomorrow to her new house and today has been tail chasing and catching up with computer related things!!!

So as far as my contribution to the Lucky 7's in 2014 weekly challenge here is my one post lol - sorry for the repetition of subject matter but that has been my week :)

Our  2 beautiful daughters and yes I am totally bias :) and don't care.

View from a window

Thank you for all your lovely supportive comments after my rant the other day, I am over it now, mainly as I don't have to see the chap any more :).  Well on Sunday B went off to Belgium for the week to work as an activity leader, in order to keep in touch I have gone back on fb, plus Dave (photo colleague) and I are looking to set up a photo page for the community work we do, but we are still toying with the idea due to all the hassle that has been on fb lately - we are both rather wary of it now!!!  Hey ho :)

So on to this week's challenge over on Lucky 7's Kathi has come up with this -

I was travelling home on the train from Plymouth and took this picture of a Vintage type train which pulled into the station alongside our train... can you see the well upholstered First Class seats with tables set for cream teas and the lovely table lamps?
I have looked it up and it is one of the Steam & Cream events at Bodmin... see here!

This got me thinking and how about this week we share some:
pictures taken through a window, or in a Mirror (Looking Glass)

Here are a few daily prompts in case you need them:
  • Monday ..... through my kitchen window
  • Tuesday .... from a bedroom window
  • Wednesday ... image in a Mirror
  • Thursday ... looking in a shop window
  • Friday ... 'Not What It Seems'
  • Saturday ... Something Interesting seen through a Window
  • Sunday ... Window or Mirror View on Holiday
Hope you find this fun and not difficult!

Happy peeping!   Kathi xx
Hopefully I can complete this one, well I know I can if I use old photos lol

Here is Monday's
My kitchen view.

and Tuesday's view - the one I wake up to each morning.

A little wet and wild yesterday lol

Last week I spent the best part of it stressing over getting some images printed for a small exhibition Dave and I have on at the moment of the Bread Riots (which you can read about here and here) , it is part of the St Austell Feast Week,  here they are up.

My printer died, B's had no ink in it and the new one I have I haven't worked out how to use it yet lol so I ended up getting them printed by DSColourlabs, great quality, postage is a little pricey but prints are cheap so it works out even.

I have two days off now, so hoping to get some serious editing done so I can show you what I have been filling my time with these last few weeks :)

Have fun today x

I am in need of a rant and I don't think I do this often but today is one of those days.  I discovered today that one thing that really annoys me is people who assume something about another individual based upon their own experiences and with no or very little knowledge of the other person whom they are making the assumption about.  This has all come about from a gentleman who is forever telling me how he played squash and tennis to county level and how he has known what it is like to be "supremely fit" as he calls it.  I have never really said much other than listen and make polite conversation, then yesterday after I suggested he used he legs more than his arms in a particular exercise - to which he shouted at me yet again telling me I had no idea about fitness  - he says "I take it you have never participated in any form of sport?"  I still feel damn indignant about it now typing it!!! OK I may not be at the level of fitness that I was last year but I have played squash - albeit badly, played netball for years, did long distance running for the school at county level, swim so I think I know what if feels like to be a certain level of fitness. Then today he insists on telling me how the only thing the young of today work hard at is how to get as much out of the benefit system as possible by doing as little as possible!!!  That didn't go down too well either with having two girls who have always had a job since the age of 14!!!  I have become very good at biting my tongue and not telling him what I think!!! Which naturally would not do - not even sure if it would make me feel better.  It just so annoys me this judging others without knowledge - I know we all do it to some degree - good old stereotyping - but we shouldn't judge a book by it's cover - I should of said that yesterday but I know I was biting my tongue because I was so incensed by his comment that I couldn't trust myself to be polite lol.    Funny thing is I don't take offence easily but when I do it is often over something quite silly as in this case!!!

Well I do feel better for that, now going for a glass of wine.  x

What I do for a living answered!

Sorry I haven't been posting each day with the Lucky 7's challenge but I developed an absess on Monday and it has dragged me down a bit this week, plus a number of things have all come to a head this week and need sorting and there just are not enough hours in the day, days in the week for me at the moment!!!  Can't see next week being much better either lol hey ho - that is life.

A few of you have asked what I do for a living after our selfie photos last week, well put get yourself a cuppa and read on, though I shall keep it brief.

I am employed by Cornwall Council in the Education, Health and Adult Care department (though that is due to change come April - what we will be then goodness knows).  I am part of the STEPS team which stands for Short Term Enablement Planning service.  We work in the community in individuals homes for a period of up to six week and we are a free service for that time.  We go to individuals who have experienced a temporary disablement, ie through a fall, surgery, illness, strokes (though their enablement can take longer than six weeks) and have been referred to us via the hospital discharge team, adult care, or other health care professionals. We work along side physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech  and language therapists etc.  So my role and my work colleagues is to go into the individual's home and work with them to improve their mobility, build up their confidence again, show them new ways of doing their daily tasks, introducing aids if necessary,  encouraging them to do things for themselves again and promote their independence and help them to remain where they want to be - which is in their own home.  Hopefully by the end of the six weeks when we leave they have reached their goals and no longer need care, occasionally they will need some form of care which they then have to pay for but not as much as they would of needed if we hadn't gone in first.  ie they may only need three calls a week for a shower instead of every day.  We work a three week shift pattern covering the hours of 8am - 8pm Monday to Friday, 365 days a year. We work with adults only and not always the elderly, we have been working with a 25yr man recently who lost his eyesight after a car crash.  So our work varies tremendously and personally I find it very enjoyable meeting new people all the time and gaining a small insight into their life.  So that is my work in a nut shell.

So far this week I have managed two of the seven back views

My group of people consist of A and B, we went for a walk to Nare Head again Wednesday evening but did a different route, one we haven't done for a year or more maybe and I am sure somewhere I have this same photo when they were little, will have to make the effort to find it.

B pondering life.

The path we had walked down on our way back to the car.

Work selfies

Work selfie today, hmm a little bit difficult for me to take pics of me at work due to the nature of my work so these are the best I could come up with.

My passage sit throughout my working day, PPE

Me in my uniform

The photo editing I have been doing all afternoon for the lady with the holiday cottage.  Thankfully just about done now.

Short post today as B is coming home this evening now unstead of tomorrow, so trying to get bits done on here before she arrives.

Catch up on selfies.

Oops slipping behind this week - too much going on.  So I have dipped on family, social and relaxing
So social me you can choose which social time you would like to join me on a

or an evening social

Family me

My cousin Paul and his partner Dee last November when they came down to Cornwall for a holiday.

The boss and I in a windy Iceland at the Blue Lagoon, our holiday selfie.

Relaxing me

can't do relaxing as I don't do relaxing, not mastered that activity much to Mick's annoyance.  The only time I sit still is when I burn out from not sitting still!!!  Around about every 3 months lol.

Had some truly fantastic news this week Bernadette got her degree results................ she got a first in her law degree - such a happy proud mummy and daddy :)  She was in tears on the phone trying to tell us as she thought she had only got a 2.1 and had been beating herself up for weeks about it - she is very hard upon herself, so really chuffed for her. I know you have seen this one before, but it is the most recent one I have of her/them.

She will be home on Saturday for a week before she is off to Belgium for a week working, so celebratory meal Sat night :)

A great day.

Been a great day today, a walk with a friend along the Pentewan Trail, finding another phone box to photograph (doesn't take a lot to make me happy you know lol), a pasty for lunch, some scrapbooking..... yes you did read that right, scrapbooking, then a swim in the sea with a very close encounter with the huge jelly fish that are abundant in our waters at the moment, could not believe the size of it.  My friend touched it with her feet and it completely freaked her out, which I thought was hilarious as she had spent the last ten minutes telling me there was nothing to be scared of swimming in the sea.  She does it all the time I don't.  I am rather  very, lets be honest, extremely nervous of swimming in the sea due to an over active imagination and shadows - yes jaws, the loch ness monster and thousands of other Karen eating creatures lurk in the dark waters down here just waiting for me to dip my toe in there!!!  Anyway she is helping me over come my slight fear of swimming in the sea, well not so much a fear just a paranoia that I shall die an edible death.

This it the harmless creature that caused us to do a Scooby Doo swimming impression lol

Kathi has a much better photo on her blog  taken actually in the water.  Mine was taken whilst dangling over the cliff edge 200ft up looking down on this one, hence quality, seriously zoomed in.

My contribution for the Lucky 7's challenge today is something crafty - which was Kathi's suggestion for yesterday - I am not known for my conforming!!!

Yes I am still working on my 50th album and really like this one, I lifted the idea from Nathalie .

A little bit of me

A new week and a new challenge over on Lucky 7's 2014 and this is what Kathi has given us this week???

Week 26 : Selfies!

Okay everyone, I think you did brilliantly with your close-ups.

Did any of you get involved with the no-make-up Selfies on Facebook?

This week I am going to ask you for 7 (or worst case just 1) Selfies!!

Don't panic just yet...

you don't have to take pictures of your face unless you want to.. show us some images which tell us about YOU..!

Here are some ideas, they don't have to be You, just images which portray something about you!..
    • Monday... Crafty Me
    • Tuesday ... Family Me
    • Wednesday ... Social Me
    • Thursday ... Relaxing Me
    • Friday ... Busy or Working Me
    • Saturday ... Morning or Bedtime Me
    • Sunday ... your choice ...You!

So day one of Selfies that tell you a little bit about me!!!!!

I decided not to go with Kathi's suggestion for today instead I am showing something that I feel represents a little bit of me.  My bangle and the engraving on it.

My mother use to sing the song "Que Sera Sera" to me when I was little and I loved the words then as I do now.  Over the years I have used the phrase on numerous occasions and believe our paths our mapped out for us, everything happens for a reason, be it good or bad. The full engraving on the bangle is "Que Sera Sera, what will be will be".  It was a birthday gift from the girls last year.

Maybe tomorrow I shan't be sooo deep!!! lol.

Day 6 of Up Close

I have sat here for most of the evening going through photos trying to come up with something DIFFICULT for today's up close (I am such a meanie lol) then  just as I was about to give up I think I found it, not the greatest of photos but hey it is rather late and the light isn't great now.  So who can work this out.

I am so chuffed with this that I just know someone is going to guess it straight away and pop my bubble - and don't you just hate it when that happens.

Mick has landed back in England but stayed in Andover last night and will travel home this morning, just in time for his dad's birthday tomorrow.  He missed it a few years back as he went off to Scotland on the bike with some friends - he hasn't been allowed to forget it lol.  Even worse was the fact that his brother and sister in law put on a family party for him, to which I took the girls and had to listen to how Mick had gone off biking instead of cancelling the trip etc etc, then in my rush to get home and get the girls to bed and lock the world outside I managed to get myself a speeding ticket.  When the letter came through the letterbox I was jumping for joy and laughing as it was Mick's car, it wasn't until the penny dropped that I had been driving the car and he was in Scotland and it was me not him that the jumping and laughing stopped and turned to annoyance!!!!  Surprisingly I have never been allowed to live that one down either lol.  So fingers crossed this birthday weekend will go much smoother!!!

Scavenger Hunt and Up Close

I often look at the photo scavenger hunt's that take place of different blogs but have not yet taken part until today, I decided I would make the effort and have a go.  So I am joining in with this one

Photography Scavenger Hunt

and here is my first photo - # 2 on the list, a garden gnome - though ours is a dog gnome!!!  Have to be different lol.  He came from my mil and sits at the front of the border that runs down the side of the garden.

Here is Day 5 of Up Close photo

not too difficult

Up close Day 4

After being cooped up in a classroom on a beautiful day like today covering legislation, policies and procedures it was a relief to be let loose at 3.30pm.  So glad I don't work in an office, though after my meeting with my Area Manager tomorrow re my future and future changes within our department - yet again - that may all change within the next twelve months, shall have to wait and see what she is thinking of tomorrow. So watch this space.

So onto day four of up close, day three was posted this morning here, yesterday was obviously too easy as everyone guessed it - yes vertical blinds.  Day one still needs to be guessed :)  So today's is this, not too difficult really!

Day 2 of up close.

I woke up this morning feeling full of energy and looking forward to Sarah from the local garden centre coming round to advise me on my garden - for the full story please see here

So now onto the Lucky 7's challenge, I think I might have been a bit mean with my first image yesterday (here) so I shall be a little kinder today and a poor quality photo :)

Has anyone got any experience with drop box?  I have downloaded it this evening and now find that I cannot upload my photos with out them going to drop box and they can't upload them due to the amount, so I have now had to uninstall drop box and everything is fine again!!!  Surely that isn't right?  Any ideas anyone?
