A good day

Had a wonderful morning today.  I went along to People and Gardens in Pentewan. My photography partner in crime (Dave) had offered our services to photograph a charity fashion show they are putting on later this year.  So we went along to meet everyone.  Turns out the lady who runs it with her husband already knew me, took me awhile to remember her!! oops.  Anyway everyone there was really lovely, we had a tour around all the greenhouses and this is where all the plants for the Eden project are grown!!!  Such amazing work going on here by these individuals with learning disabilities and those that work with them.  Anyway, thinking we would only be there about an hour we ended up being there for 4hrs!!!  and came away with a couple of new projects as well as the original plan. One is to create a calendar that they can then sell to raise funds and two to create a time line of photos for the tomatoes they grow that go into Cornish Ketchup which hopefully the Eden Project will display in their educational centre!!  Also hoping the guy from Cornish Ketchup will let us in to photograph his process.  So more exciting stuff to keep us going through the year. :)

January gone....

So January has gone for another year, I automatically go to say - "where did it go" "hasn't it flown", but I have stopped myself this time and really don't feel I can say that as it doesn't feel that way this time - why I'm not sure - maybe it is due to the fact that I think I have slowed down abit this month even though I have had things planned for nearly all my days off so I have still been on the go, but I am certainly aware that I have sat down more as I have been reading more and writing more - something I am really enjoying again.  In fact it takes me back to my teenage years when I was always reading or writing letters, essays or my diary.

 

A fair bit of the reading and writing has been proof reading and writing ideas for B's training contract applications!!!  Some of these questions make me laugh, they are asking a 20yr for their greatest achievement in life and how that achievement has effected their life and those around them, she is 20 and hasn't really started to live her life being in education for the last 15yrs!! Thankfully she hasn't had to experience any great trauma's in her short life, (totally aware of death and dead bodies and fine with that - just something I don't think children should be shielded from and haven't done with mine) plus she hasn't had the opportunity to really take on any great personal challenges like backpacking the world on her own, or going off and doing voluntary work aboard, though I know some of her friends took a gap year and did it, she chose to go straight to uni (it was at the time of the fee increase as well, which had a big influence on her decision).  Though I think this was the toughest "What qualities does an commercial organisation need to have in order to be successful today? Please use an organisation you admire as an example"  Admittedly that one I handed straight back to her as I hadn't a clue, thankfully as she has worked for Holister (Abercrombie and Fitch) for the last three years she was able to compare - though comparing a law firm with a 18-25yrs old clothes shop.......!!!!  but I have to say the response she came up with I thought was excellent. In fact I have been impressed with her determination to complete these questions, she has written and rewritten her responses so many times until she has been totally happy with them and each time  they have improved and shown the depth of her research into her answers (admittedly some of it has gone way over my head - especially when she and Mick started on about global business!!!!  Time to put the kettle on for me lol. 

 

Anyway I am really glad to say they have all now been sent off, she has completed her quick reasoning writing that they have to do once the application is received, if she has got through that stage then they will read her application, if they like it they will invite her for an interview.  If the don't ............................  it doesn't bare thinking about :(

So in January I have managed to keep up my daily photo (which can be seen here)  and tried some new recipes, stuffed peppers and vegetable lasagne.  Not managed to take part in the Lucky 7's challenges but intend to do better during February.

 

A New Day and a New Year

Happy New Year everyone and welcome to 2014!!!  Hope this one goes somewhat slower than the last.

Last night Mick and I went round to some friends for a meal, none of us are that bothered about celebrating New Year so we decided to have a quite night in round theirs and it was lovely, very relaxed, great conversation and lovely food - Nick trying out new recipes which all went down very well I have to say, we couldn't believe how quick the night went.  We watched the fireworks on TV wished each other Happy New Year then Mick and I headed home.  We climbed into bed at 1.15am and I deliberately didn't set my alarm and opened my eyes at 9.40am totally refreshed and feeling good :) (I was driving last night so no chance of a hang over) - an excellent start to the new year.

 

So today has seen the fridge cleaned out after the mass of Christmas food that has been in there, now empty and waiting for the food shop tomorrow, and the first of my Daily photos taken...........yes I am trying it again lol one day I will complete this challenge.  The theme is to be 'My home'  mainly the garden but an option to do indoors as well.  I shall be posting the photos on a new blog I have set up purely for my photos.  It is here if you fancy a look.  I have been thinking about a photo blog for a while as this blog has become more of my rambling blog and I think the photography gets lost in it (well it does for me) so the other blog is for my inspiration, projects, articles I find interesting basically anything to do with photography.  I will still put photos on here but I am sure you get the idea.

Toys and Hobbies

After approximately six months of listening about different bike (motorbike that is) specifications, build quality, how this one holds it value better than that one, the one I have is fine ... it is just..... there is one for sale and it has only done x amount of miles and would only cost if I got ? for mine but it is so far up the line !!!  I don't need another one this one will do me fine for Scotland AND Switzerland..... but there happens to be one in Plymouth and it is a really good deal and part exchange on mine !! I am sure there are some of you reading this who are smiling and know exactly what I am talking about. It takes place around every three to four years in this house and it still makes me smile that we go through it knowing what the outcome will be -  Mick has a new toy - though he would say it is for us ????  Yes I go on the back, yes he takes me to places I want to photograph on it but us!!!   He is now the proud owner of a

admittedly it does look nice and once the rain stops and it ventures out of the garage I will photograph the whole thing to show you.  So I can feel a weekend of bike bonding coming on between man and his toy.

I, on the other hand have finished Bernadette's vest top that she requested I knitted for her - it is just awaiting a press now.  Now to finish the pair of socks I started after Christmas!

Daily photos

With the lovely light evenings that have arrved, Mick and I have managed some evening walks.  Sunday we went down to a local beach, Pendower the tide was out so we could cover two beaches, Pendower and Carne, so I used this image as my daily photo.

Last night we went for a walk around Mevagissey.  A lot of the properties are built on slopes and don't have drive ways as such, so they create a private layby effect with steps up to the property, most have signs up saying "private property" then I saw this one,

Still can't decide if I am amused or just shocked!! Amused I think!!
