New Year First Step

So to kick start the year off and my NYR's I am joining in with Dry January.  Now please don't think I have a drink problem as I don't (but then that is what those with say, isn't it??) Ok so maybe I do in the sense I like a glass or two, three, four, OK the odd bottle every now and then!  I enjoy it and yes sometimes I use it to forget things - I am only human after all!!
I also know that is doesn't do me any good all those empty calories sit on my waist in the form of a mini muffin - best change that to large muffin after my eating habits over the festive period!!!  So I have finished off all the wine in the house that is mine (I drink white Mick drinks red) and I do work on the theory if it isn't in the house you can't eat or drink it ( too lazy to go down the shop to buy some let alone pay village prices!!)
Now I know some of you may have read the article in the Daily Mail by Dr Christen Jessen who actually says the whole concept of giving up alcohol for a month is bad for you and I can see what he is saying, but I am using it as a stepping stone to actually give it up for longer than a month.  I did it a couple of years ago for lent and when it came to the end of lent I really wasn't bothered about it and only gave in to drinking again when on holiday with friends and it was peer pressure - which I am ashamed  to say I folded under.  I know I feel better without it and I don't need it and the pennies saved can go to something nicer like chocolate camera gear, wool, books MORE BOOTS!!!  (oh forgot to mention I have another new pair - they are lush) sorry I digress!!
This is also going to be part of my lose weight campaign -now those who physically know me will say I don't need to lose weight but I do beg to differ... I don't feel comfortable in myself and the truth is I can't get my toes close enough to my body to see them to paint them anymore (even with the glasses on) because the belly is in the way - so that tells me I need to lose the belly/weight and also the thighs rub together when I walk - another sign as far as I am concerned.
Due to shift working (NB excuse there) I am not able to sign up to a regular thing such as slimming world or weight watchers (truth - I am too tight fisted to pay the membership fee!) so it will have to be done by shear will power and sensible eating oh and exercise!!  Anyone who reads this blog or knows me, will know I lack will power and self discipline - in fact I don't lack it, I just don't have any!!

So I think this is going to be my really big challenge in 2015 to lose a stone (not much to ask for) via sensible eating, drinking and exercise - simplas!!

So the question is - is anyone out there going to join me in this challenge and help me along?  Let me know how much you are hoping to lose and we can have a weekly check in to say how we have got on and when the will power is struggling we can gee each other along and keep up the determination, share ideas, recipes etc I shall be weighing myself and taking measurements today and shall do that on a weekly basis now til that stone is gone. I shall even mark it in my diary so I don't forget!!

PS I know it is New Year tomorrow but there is no time like the present!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL. XX

  3. Happy New Year. I intend cutting back the wine to 3 days a week, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, impossible to do more in France!!! I am also cutting out food two days a week other than breakfast. Hopefully I will loose about 4 to 5 kg and I will feel much better. People who know me also say I do not need to loose weight but that spare tyre just gets me!. Thanks so much Karen for following me, I do appreciate it. Diane

  5. I'll join you Karen. I'm sort of following Slimming world (but no longer paying for classes) but with a bit of a combination of calorie counting. I eased off towards the end of last year and I put a few pounds back on over Christmas so have set myself a new target to lose another stone. Which day are we going to weigh in?
