The future

Viv over on Lucky Snapping shared this poem with us and challenged us accordingly

Warning - When I Am an Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple
By Jenny Joseph
When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple
with a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
and satin candles, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I am tired
and gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
and run my stick along the public railings
and make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
and pick the flowers in other people's gardens
and learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
and eat three pounds of sausages at a go
or only bread and pickles for a week
and hoard pens and pencils and beer nuts and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
and pay our rent and not swear in the street
and set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

The poem gave me the idea to challenge you to think about what you would like to do or where you would like to be in the future.
What do you think?
It doesn’t have to be when you are old, just in your future, maybe even tomorrow or next week.
a dream holiday, a different house, new car, anything really.
Perhaps also you could take photos this week of works in progress, Family, crafts, something in the home or at work. Whatever you think fits the bill.

If I am honest I try not to think too much about the distant future, I find those thoughts scary, this fear is probably caused by what I see at work. I just pray that my family and I are bless with good health, can't ask for my marbles to stay in tact as they are already packing their bags and giving up on me!!!

That said I do like love to plan things and have something to always look forward to, doesn't have to be a big event just something. So for the rest of this week I can see myself spending time with friends, meeting a new little person for the first time (might even get to take some photos of her!!), celebrating a friends birthday, a surprise, becoming a great auntie for the first time!!! Making the decision as to whether I need a new printer or can I make do with this one and catching up with my sil.  All that will run alongside the usual weekly stuff of work, cc, etc etc.

A memory of sunny days gone by
 - entertaining the crowds at the St Austell Feast Festival in July.

Next year I would like to be doing some more community event photography and aggravate the local newspaper photography/editor even more than I did this year.  He is such a sexist, arrogant man that he just begs to be annoyed and irritated lol.

  6. Good post. I find it doesn't bode well to think too far into the future. I think the way you do it is perfect. I look forward to hearing about how you put the arrogant newspaper man in is place!
