Lucky Snapping - daily peeks!!

This week Kathi is encouraging us to post a daily photo - surprise surprise I am already behind and it is only Wed lol.

I have this idea for a photograph that I want to try and create, so Monday evening  I popped out into the garden to have a play with the camera.  As you can see if involves a slow shutter speed and taken in the hours of darkness - right up my street!!  Think I went out a bit too late so will try again tonight if the rain stops and then take the idea to the intended location :) on the right night.  First time I have felt happy about doing a self portrait lol.

Saw the doctor today and he kindly informed me that my distance walking days are over due to the leg injury I developed in Feb.  So he suggested I took up swimming instead of walking!! Hey ho - they did warn me that in Feb but would I listen no - so I am back on this rest activity again, not an activity I have ever really participated in so the Yoga dvd's have been out today ha ha!!

26wk Challenge - Lights

Well where has the time gone again, one minute I was packing my bags for a weekend away and the next it is the following weekend and my poor little feet don't seem to have touched ground since Yvonne dropped me home Monday morning. Hence this is the first real chance I have had to get on here to update with last week's challenge. So, 'lights', here are my three, I finally went to the fair last week and took some shots. So these are my light shots.

 AV mode, ss2.5secs, f22, ISO 100, 50mm.
AV mode, ss 1/20, f5.6, ISO 200, 50mm

The week before I trundled down to the station one evening (this is what happens when my husband goes away for ten days!!)
AV mode, ss 20 secs, f20, ISO 200, 50mm

Admittedly these fall into light trails abit as well but there are static lights in them as well.  The start bursts on the lampposts are created by a small aperture.

To see Louise's images go here thanks for joining in.  Two more challenges to go on the list, the current one is 'A sense of Place', choose a location and produce three images that tell the viewer something about that place. Upload the images to your blog by the 14th October. Have fun. x

Weekly challenge

Running late with this as well - obviously going to be one of those weeks.  Right this week our theme is to use a slow shutter speed, this can be to create a blurring effect from a moving object ie vehicles, water, light trails, star trails, painting with light photos. Or for night time photography when you need to have the shutter open for a longer in order to let more light in.  Anyway have fun and get creative.  Anyone welcome to join in just let me know so we can link up on Sunday.

Here is one of the first one's I did a couple of years ago.  Hopefully we will see an improvment at the end of the week!!

Half term is here ..... yeah!

Yep half term has arrived which means a whole week off.  Time to recharge the batteries and have some me time ....... sounds very selfish I know but sometimes a girl needs to be selfish.  So I have spent most of the day learning how to use my camera all over again and in the process taken some real rubbish photos - but who cares I have enjoyed it and that is what it is all about.  I had a play last night as well using long exposure and a torch on some conkers - here is the result.

Also last night I had another go at some moonlight photos with the camera on the bulb setting.  On the camera the pics looked good but not so on the computer - needed abit longer exposure, I have slightly lightened one in photoshop to show you but it really isn't that good.  I was going to repeat it tonight but the moon isn't playing!

I just love the way the clouds come out with long exposures, roll on the next full moon.

Torch light

Well I haven't tried any more star trails because it has been too cloudy or too cold!!!  So here is a picture I took a couple of months back when playing with slow shutters.  It was taken with the shutter on bulb setting and then I ran torch light around the outside of the leaf.  It didn't give me the effect I wanted - I was trying to draw the outline of the leaf - but I liked the lighting effect it gave.  See what you think.

Another moon light image

Here is another one I took the other night down at Towan. Must admit this is probably my favourite from the evening.  In fact everyone who has seened it so far has fallen in love with it.

New Month

Ok where did January go????  I must have blinked that is all I can say.

So here we are five days into February and I haven't even posted what my theme for this month is going to be - shame on me!!  Well it is another of my favourite techniques, which needs to be mastered on my part and that is low light photography and slow shutter speeds.  I just love low light images, something special about them.  Last weekend brought a full moon, so there I was with my extremely understanding husband down on Towan Beach, in the bitter cold photographing the moon reflecting on the sea and star trails!!!!!!  As it was my first attempt I was pleased with the results but they are by no means brilliant - I have along way to go before I feel confident in this area.

I'll show you a couple that were taken a minute apart at 7.40pm, the first had a 6 sec shutter and the second 20 secs.

I find it hard to believe the second one was taken at night. The moon and its reflection are
burnt out. The little white dots are stars - not marks on my lens - (well I don't think they are anyway!)

This next image is one of my first attempts at star trails.  I will try this again but not with a full moon.

The shutter speed on this was 69 secs.  I actually like this image, probably because of the shades of blue.
Anyway hope you enjoy.
