Daily Peeks - Day 3

Day 3

 

Feeling a bit lost after the buzz of the 'Bread Riots' and no 'bodies' to photograph I put out a request on facebook  for willing models for me to practise on, (still can't believe that I did such a thing - so unlike me!!).  One of the chaps I know from camera club volunteered his son.  So this afternoon they appeared, I was expecting an 11yr old, instead a 17yr old walked in!!!  Which, possibly turned out better as he wasn't at all shy and a real poser.  Here are a couple of him.

He was really good with me and didn't mind me sticking my camera in his face, we just stayed in the back garden but have requested he let me do another shoot with him in an urban environment as I think he would be great there.  Can't decide which out of these three I like best, in fact can't decide out of all of them which I like best.  He teachers dance to youngsters and did do some moves for me.  He also bored quite quick and decided he was hungry as he hadn't eaten all day, but I am really grateful for his time.

Portraits ....

.. was this week's challenge.  Not something I get to do very often and I did think I was going to fail again and have to use one previously taken .... but I'm delighted to say I have some new one's to show :)  It happened to be a practical night at camera club this week and one of the members brought in his studio lights and another member brought in some models, in the form of her daughter and two friends, all three are extremely photogenic and very good sports. So here are my offerings for this week.  Here are Louise's handsome clan.

 First up is Jack

followed by Beccy.  These were taken using two studio lights and a black back drop.

This one is an older one, it was taken during Feb half term.  One of my mum's at work was happy for me to take some photos of her new son, who is just so adorable, this is one of my favourite.

I had a big debate with a chap at cc re portrait images.  He says that a good portrait has to have the eyes of the model wide open and they are not to be smiling.  I can't bring myself to fully agree with that, I like to see a model smiling I feel it shows some of their personality and gives something to the photo, yes admittedly the eyes close up somewhat when laughing or smiling (mine nearly disappear altogether - not photogenic!) but it gives life to the image.  Though having said all that it does depend what you are trying to convey in your image as well.  Having seen Louise's images the first two make me wonder what they are thinking, while the others make me smile so much especially the pout!!  Love to know what everyone else looks for in a portrait.

Portrait Shoot

As promised here are a couple of images taken yesterday on the portrait shoot. Louise was a fantastic model - not that I have worked with a model before - but she knew what to do which in my mind made it so much easier for the likes of me to take photos of her.

Another photo of Kate, I really liked this one but I know Kate was not impressed with the hat, but as her mum has put it on her blog as well I think I can show it too!

Spent a lovely day at my friend's house Kathie, her youngest daughter very kindly agreed to my taking some photos of her so that I could practise my portrait photography as it is not an area I get much practice in.  She is a very photogenic young lady which helped me tremendously as you can see.
