I took it back in Sept 2010 for some Christmas cards I was making that year. I used some black fleece laid on the table to create a back drop for the candle, drew the curtains to block out as much light as possible (it was taken at 1.30pm). Camera (canon 50d used) on tripod with the following settings - Macro mode, 1/60 shutter speed, f4, evaluative metering, ISO 400, manual focusing and a focal length of 28mm, with the build in flash used. I played around with slower shutter speeds but then the flame becomes more blurred and I didn't want that effect hence I settled for the 1/60.
Why not have a go yourself at setting up a shot, you don't have to go for a black background that was just my choice. The image proved very popular with customers as a Christmas card - I'm pleased to say :)

There is nothing wrong with point and shoots - it is all about taking photos and enjoying it, regardless of what you use. xx
