Weekly photo - action

Well I didn't actually manage to take an action photo this week instead I was in the photo.  Yep today I did my abseil, 95ft down the tower of the Falmouth Maritime Museum - now some of you may say that is nothing but considering I have a fear of heights and have never abseiled before I think that is pretty darn good and I am feeling very pleased with myself and my friend Barbara who did it with me and just to prove it - here we are ....
Climbing over the railings and having to sit on the green pad looking down, then you 'hop off' and just go for it!!

Me dangling in mid air - Barbara was gone I was somewhat slower "lol" but she did wait for me so we could pose together :)

It was great but all over way to quick - we would both like to do another one but much higher - 200ft was mentioned!!  Watch this space.

Thanks to everyone who encouraged me, sponsored me (raised £173.50), came to watch me and took photos for me Yvonne, Nick and Matt look forward to seeing them all - it really means a lot to me and is greatly appreciated.

Louise managed some great action shots here
We are doing "reflections" this week some obvious ones ie mirror, shiny surfaces water and some not so obvious likness, looking back, memories.

Weekly photo - flora

It is that time of the week again for our weekly photo and this week we were photographing flowers.  I had it all planned  to photograph a rose and have been watching it open all week and then the rain came down and ruin it - good old british weather eh?  So I cut it off and brought  in doors so I could enjoy what was left of it and the gorgeous scent it has, so I resorted to come cut flowers instead.

I think this one is my favourite.

Can't decide if the flower in the foreground is too distracting all not, I tried cropping it out but wasn't so keen on it then!

My poor rose, battered by the wind and rain :(

Louise has uploaded her's, and this week Mandy who is just starting out on her photography journey but is an incredible scrapbooker and Sam have joined us (adding later)  welcome aboard and hope you enjoy the fun - this week we are photographing action - frozen or blurred  - your choice.  Might have to use my imagination on this one

Where did the time go??

Sixteen years seems so long ago, but it seems like only yesterday our little Amanda entered ours lives but last night brought it home to Mick and I (and a lot of other parents) that our little one's are not little any more. She has gone from this

to this
in such a short time and is growing up and away rapidly - just like her big sister :(

Thought I would share a comparison photo with you - I'm sure they will thank me ..one day!!

Affectionately known as our Town Mouse and Country Mouse
(err.. yes that is BIG sister on the left!!)
Am I proud?  Oh yes - very :)

By the way, I think my photography is starting to show signs of improvment !

Here we go.....

This is what I shall be doing next Sunday 29th May at the Maritime Museum in Falmouth - it is only 95ft - so not too bad I guess (gulp!!)

 Charity Abseil

Have to be honest and say everytime I think about it I feel physically sick - good start eh?  Still I have been reassured that once I touch ground again I will feel fantastic and I'm sure I will - as to whether I will ever do it again remains to be seen.
I have been overwhelmed by people's generousity in sponsoring me as well - thank you very much - (they probably don't think I will do it and won't have to pay!! lol)
The above photo is borrowed but hopefully next week I shall be able to post one's of me - surprisingly a lot said they would come to watch - why goodness knows - at the end of the day all they will see is my backside decending to earth at a rate of knots accompanied by a piercing scream - great entertainment for a Sunday afternoon!!  Anyway take off is between 4pm and 4.30pm.

Weekly photo

Can't believe another week has gone by again and the second post of the evening!  I did manage to complete this week's photo challenge which was silhouttes.  Unfortunately Louise is still in a lot of pain from her neck and has been unable to take part - get better soon Louise. x

So here are my offerings, all straight out of the camera.

Liked this one as it looks like the letter A!

Next week we are photographing flora hmm! Any one can join us, it is all for fun and to make sure we get out and use our cameras - no pressure!  Just let Louise or I know so we can link up with you.

Mid life crisis??

On Wednesday I turned 48 and be it the fact that I was at a funeral on Monday or that we drove up to Doncaster and back over 700 miles - we did a detour to Deeping to visit mum and dad's grave so that added a few more, it was worth it though.  Anyway I found myself doing an awful lot of thinking about life and things I've done or not as the case may be.  The end result of all this thinking is a list of 'challenges' as I am calling them, that my family and I have set for me to complete in the next two years before I hit the big 50.  The challenges vary but do seem to have a physical side to them as well as doing things I absolutely hate!!  This is the list so far -

Charity Abseil, completed 29th May 2011
London Moon Walk,
Christmas Day Soup Kitchen,
Run a half marathon (set by Mick),
Go on two big roller coaster rides (set by Bernadette),
Cycle the Camel Trail from start to finish (36 miles there and back)
Finish the jumper I have been knitting since Dec 2010 (Mick's request)  probably the hardest to complete!!

there are others but they aren't to be published yet!!

So watch this space - I could be completing one of them a fortnight today :o

Behind again

It has been a full on week this week with a bank holiday, work, meetings three nights then camera club night we went over to Pine Lodge Gardens to have a look around with a view to taking images for their publicity material and putting on an exhibition. Then shock horror I actually went scrapbooking yesterday and had a thoroughly enjoyable day with everyone, it was so good to be there having been absence from the monthly crop for so long.  Thanks ladies for a lovely day and to Linda for actually making me do some scrapping ..... speed scrapping at that, a very scary experience, but an enjoyable one.  So today it has been catch up with all the mundane chores that have been put off all week hence my excuse for not getting any silhoutte images taken.  It may be a lame one but it is a true one :).  Louise has a much better excuse for not completing this week's challenge - she has hurt her neck and shoulder - get well soon Louise. x

I have one image to share though, of a special gentleman who passed away a couple of weeks ago my Uncle Lew he would have been 96 in June. I didn't get to see much of him since moving down to Cornwall as he was still in Doncaster but we spoke on the phone and I have lots of wonderful memories of him and my late Aunty Mary and the tales he would tell us and the twinkle in his eye that he always had. So tomorrow morning Mick and I shall be setting off to head 'home' - for me -  to say our final goodbye to him, just so thankful that Mick and the girls had the opportunity to meet him.

Weekly photo

This week our challenge was to produce a mono image.  I opted for something that I have been meaning to photograph since Christmas - see how long it takes me to get around to things!!!  It has turned out as an abstract but I am absolutely fascinated by this.  It is a pine cone cut into slices to make christmas decorations and the image is a close up of one of the slices.  If you have never seen the inside of a cone you must I am amazed by it.  The textures and patterns are wonderful.

Please have a look at Louise's mono photos of Tower Bridge.  This coming week we are photographing 'silhouettes'.  Any one is welcome to join us, just let us know so we can link up together.

Australia's april photo

Just received my cousin's April image from Australia.

Really starting to look dry now.  Here are previous images.  I have decided put the images together in a collage so that the changes can be seen easier.
